Sharon Champion - Finalist for the 2019 Chief Minister's Inclusion Awards

Sharon Champion is a finalist for the Emerging Young Leader award at the 2019 ACT Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards!

Sharon has been working as an educator in the Stella Bella Children's Centre since September 2017. Since starting, she has been encouraged to take part in every task and activity that their staff need to do in their important role of educating and caring for young children. Sharon has always been keen to tackle any task and to be given the same responsibilities as her peers.

She is a fiercely determined young woman who takes huge pride in her work and her independence and is always reliable. She loves working with children, adapts well to each age group and learning environment, and is an integral part of the Centre. As a person with Down syndrome, she has had to work extra hard to get through her schooling and to navigate the world she lives in.

Sharon just completed her Certificate 3 in Children's Services at CIT, believed to be the first person with Down syndrome in the ACT, and only the second person in Australia, to do so. Read more about her journey in this article from The Canberra Times.
