Department of Communications and the Arts’ Disability and Carers Steering Committee - Finalist for the 2019 Chief Minister's Inclusion Awards

The Department of Communications and the Arts’ Disability and Carers Steering Committee is a finalist for Inclusion in Public Sector Employment at the 2019 Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards!

The Department of Communications and the Arts’ Disability and Carers Steering Committee was established in 2018, aiming to create an inclusive culture within the department through supporting, advocating and educating staff about the lives of people with disability and carers of people with disability.

The Committee established a program of creative events and activities to promote diversity and encourage staff to be more inclusive in the workplace and in the wider community; advocated for access audits in offices to make all workspaces more accessible and inclusive; provided advice on inclusive conference presentation skills, best practice for inclusive meetings, and how to create better recruitment practices to improve the employment and careers of people with disability and carers; and assisted a number of staff to access workplace adjustments, and achieve better outcomes for their employment and career.

The Committee is made up of staff members with disability and carers, and is supported by a wider Disability and Allies Network, which all staff are welcome to join.
