Véronique Gouneau - Finalist for the 2019 Chief Minister's Inclusion Awards

Véronique Gouneau is a finalist for Inclusion in Public Sector Employment at the 2019 Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards!

Véronique Gouneau is the Head of Department for Community Work at the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT). She is a passionate and inspiring leader who builds teams that have a strong sense of community, identity and inclusion. In 2017, Véronique advocated for a young woman with a permanent global development delay to commence volunteer work within her Department. As she successfully performed a variety of duties and quickly became a loved member of the team, Veronique expanded her hours and in 2018, she enquired about the process to have her employed so that this person could be paid for her valuable contribution to CIT.

Véronique’s determination to offer paid employment, not just volunteer work, sets a precedent and pathway for other people with disability to be engaged in inclusive employment with CIT. Her tenacity is a true example of how public sector organisations can strive for inclusive workplaces.
