Join us in Canberra as we explore what it means to safeguard the future of a family member with disability.
- Thursday to Friday, 23-24 May 2024
- Hotel Realm Canberra
Our society tends to shy away from discussing the one certainty in life: our inevitable demise. This sensitive topic often stirs up strong, uncomfortable emotions, and people usually want to avoid talking about it.
And yet, we find our thoughts sometimes drift to those terrifying questions:
- How can I be sure my family member with disability will remain safe, loved, and working toward their goals if I am no longer around?
- What do I need to put in place now to safeguard their future?
- Who can I trust to support my family member to make decisions?
Safeguarding is a conversation we think is important to have, no matter how old you and your loved one are. It’s as critical to safeguard the future of a very young person as it is for an adult.
At the Safeguarding the Future Conference, we aim to provide a safe environment for you to think challenging thoughts and start making difficult decisions. You might even find that by being in the company of like-minded, supportive families and professionals, you’ll leave with greater clarity and peace of mind.
People with disability, their families, friends, and allies, education and service professionals, support workers, service providers, government representatives, and anyone who values the lifelong well-being of people with disability are all welcome to attend this conference.
