Socio-Legal Practice (SLP) Clinic at Canberra Community Law

The Socio-Legal Practice (SLP) Clinic is a program of Canberra Community Law. In the SLP Clinic, a lawyer and social worker will work together with you to help you with your legal issues.

The SLP Clinic provides legal advice and intensive social work for people over 18 who have a high degree of complexity and have housing, Centrelink or disability discrimination issues.

The SLP Clinic represents an innovative approach that is providing excellent legal and other support for people with disabilities in Canberra. Frequently people attend the clinic with a legal issue that require a serious engagement with the whole of their life to resolve the core issue creating the legal issue.

Although not specifically a service for people with disability, many of the clients of SLP Clinic have a disability:

  • In the 2016-2017 financial year, 77 per cent of 79 clients had a disability.
  • In the 2017-2018 financial year, 88 per cent of 52 clients identifed as having a disability.
