Accessible Barbeques

To celebrate the beginning of National Carers Week on 14 October, Carers ACT cooked a delicious sausage sizzle at Cotter Bend, where the ACT Parks and Conservation Service have recently installed two new public barbecues that are wheelchair accessible - the first of their kind in the ACT!

The design provides access to the barbecue for Canberrans and visitors who use wheelchairs or can’t stand for long periods of time.

Minister for Disability, Suzanne Orr MLA officially opened the new barbecues, which are designed to allow leg space so people can wheel their chair directly underneath the barbecue and have better access to the barbecue cooktop. (See this media release)

Another set of accessible barbeques has been installed at Pine Island Reserve in Tuggeranong.
