Women With Disabilities ACT - Finalist for the 2019 Chief Minister's Inclusion Awards

Women With Disabilities ACT (WWDACT) is a finalist for the Excellence in Inclusive Services and Disability Support award at the 2019 ACT Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards!

WWDACT is a systemic advocacy and peer support organisation which works to improve the status and lives of the 33-thousand women, girls, non-binary and feminine identifying people with disabilities in the ACT.

Women* with disabilities are often isolated as a result of their disability.

WWDACT is providing a series of peer-support get-togethers. These 6-weekly Social Drop-ins are designed to minimise barriers to participation and promote peer support.

In 2018-19 WWDACT developed a program to nurture young leaders with disabilities.

Eight young leaders were featured at the Pitch Your Passion gala night, each speaking for ten minutes about their area of interest.

The event engendered disability pride, confidence in their work and the ability to be leaders in their chosen professions, and has continued with mentorships and the creation of the ACT Disability Youth Network.

WWDACT is also a finalist for the Championing Human Rights and Equality award!

In an action social research project completed this year, WWDACT examined access to sex education for women with disability in ACT.

The final report on Contraception, Consent, Respectful Relationships & Sexuality is available on the publications page of their website.
