Disability Justice Reference Group commended at the 2019 Chief Minister's Inclusion Awards

The Disability Justice Reference Group received a commendation for Excellence in Champion Human Rights and Equality at the 2019 Chief Minister's Inclusion Awards!

The Disability Justice Reference Group was set up to assist in the development and implementation of an ACT Disability Strategy, which was launched this year with its First Action Plan. During the development phase of the Disability Justice Strategy, this reference group provided advice on priority inclusions for the Disability Justice Strategy, fostered cooperative linkages across the justice and disability sectors in preparing the strategy; and ensured the lived experience of people with disability was central to the Strategy development.

Co-Chairs Heidi Yates and Dougie Herd and the other members of the Reference group gave their time and expertise, prioritising attendance at meetings and championing disability justice work through their professional roles. The judging panel applauded the reference group’s ongoing commitment to assist the Disability Justice Strategy team in the implementation of the Strategy.
