Women With Disabilities ACT commended at the 2019 Chief Minister's Inclusion Awards

Women With Disabilities ACT (WWDACT) received a commendation for Excellence in Championing Human Rights and Equality  at the 2019 Chief Minister's Inclusion Awards!

WWDACT is a systemic advocacy and peer support organisation which works to improve the status and lives of the 33-thousand women, girls, non-binary and feminine identifying people with disability in the ACT. WWDACT is a human-rights based Disabled People’s Organisation, being governed for and by women with disability.

  • In an action social research project completed this year, WWDACT examined access to sex education for women with disability in ACT.
  • WWDACT developed a program called Pitch Your Passion to nurture young leaders with disability, engender disability pride and confidence and facilitate mentoring.
  • They also organised a series of social get togethers to minimise barriers to participation and promote peer support.

The judging panel commended these inclusive supports as further strengthening the organisation’s role in championing the rights and equality of women, non-binary and feminine identifying people with disability in the ACT.
