Belconnen Community Service wins at the 2019 Chief Minister's Inclusion Awards

Belconnen Community Service won the Excellence in Inclusive Services and Disability Support award at the 2019 ACT Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards!

This award recognises an organisation who has demonstrated excellence in providing services that promote inclusion, and respond to the needs and aspirations of people with disability.

With the introduction of the NDIS, Belconnen Community Service (BCS) has developed fresh and unique activities for people with disability, offering a variety of groups to meet the needs and aspirations of approximately 200 participants - all with different skill sets, mobility, interests, and levels of communication.

These groups promote opportunities for meaningful participation and active inclusion in the ACT community - paving the way to break down barriers of prejudice and discrimination.  BCS consistently asks for feedback from participants and families and responds to suggestions, ensuring there is always something new to try, to enjoy and to learn.

The judging panel were impressed by the range of activities that provide meaningful participation and active inclusion for the people they support. Their service exceeds the National Standards that apply to disability service providers.
