Australian Bureau of Statistics - Finalist for the 2019 Chief Minister's Inclusion Awards

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is a finalist for Inclusion in Public Sector Employment at the 2019 Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards!

In 2018, Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) partnered with Specialisterne Australia, a social enterprise that specialises in assisting organisations to create employment pathways that are more inclusive for candidates living with autism. The ABS offices in Belconnen were selected to be part of a ground-breaking Australian Government pilot initiative in 2018/19 to create careers for Canberrans living with autism - the ABS Federal Talent Hub program.

This highly successful program was part of a multi-agency Federal pilot initiative to attract and recruit talented candidates and increase the number of career opportunities for Australians living with autism across the APS. Four contractors were placed from the program into ABS and have commenced their careers in the Australian public service. ABS staff have received further training and support to learn how to best accommodate their new team members.
