Ruth O'Brien - Finalist for the 2019 Chief Minister's Inclusion Awards

Ruth O’Brien is a finalist for the Achievement in Inclusion award at the 2019 ACT Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards!

Ruth O'Brien is a passionate musician, performing artist and arts-worker with disability in Canberra. She has been heavily involved in creating opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in the arts in Canberra and increasing general accessibility awareness.

Ruth ran the Youth Leadership Program for Women with Disabilities ACT, coordinating and producing the inaugural Pitch Your Passion event and its associated mentorship program. (For more information, see the Leadership development page.)

In 2018-19, Ruth worked as Accessible Arts' ACT Project Officer and Trainer. This role allowed her to promote accessibility to the arts in numerous ways, including organising a local Accessing The Arts Group, a quarterly professional development group for arts workers.

Ruth also coordinated advisory panels for arts organisations to liaise with people with lived experience of disability, organised disability awareness training sessions for arts organisations, and helped develop Disability Action and Inclusion Plans.
