Canberra Community Law - Finalist for the 2019 Chief Minister's Inclusion Awards
Canberra Community Law is a finalist for the Championing Human Rights and Equality award at the 2019 ACT Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards!
Canberra Community Law is a not-for-profit, community legal centre that has been providing free, independent legal services to people on low incomes or facing other disadvantage in the ACT for over 30 years. For the past 4 years the centre has operated a highly successful and innovative program, the Socio-Legal Practice Clinic. Most of the clients assisted by the Clinic are people with disability and the program has been highlighted as an example of best practice for ensuring access to justice for people with disability.
Canberra Community Law works with people with disability across all its programs and operates a specific disability discrimination law program. After first implementing a Disability Action Plan in 2015, the percentage of clients with a disability has increased year on year. Canberra Community Law has demonstrated their commitment to inclusion by undertaking a building accessibility audit, making its website more accessible, introducing service brochures in Easy English and appointing a person with a disability to its board.
