Child Development Service (CDS)

The Child Development Service (CDS) offers assessment, referral, information and linkages for children 0‑6 years where there are concerns relating to their development.

The Service assists families who live in the ACT and have concerns about a child developing skills slower than other of the same age in areas such as speech and language, movement, hand skills, self care and social development. The service also provides autism assessment for children aged up to 12 years.

Children that require early intervention supports are referred to the NDIA Early Childhood Early Intervention service partner, EACH. The EACH ACT Childhood Intervention - School Aged Therapy Service is a multidisciplinary therapy service working with NDIS participants aged 7 to 18 living in the Canberra region. Their team consists of speech pathologists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists.

This Child Development Service includes an Equipment Loan Scheme for children and young people up to the age of 16 years who require specialist equipment to support their participation in the community. The equipment is loaned to the carer of the child or young person for an agreed period of time to assist in areas of mobility, activities of daily living (e.g. personal care, play, leisure, transport), communication and assistive technology.
